Sakib Pratyay - Photographer
Pratyay is a well-known visual storyteller based in Bangladesh. His photos have been widely published in various web and print publications, displayed at photo festivals in Miami, Iserlohn, Hamburg, Bangkok, Calgary and Dhaka. His photo-essay ‘Narayanganj Palliative Care Patient Stories’ is considered a landmark for health-care media advocacy in Bangladesh, which was later exhibited at Bangladesh National Museum, Dhaka in December 2019.
Pratyay curates for several publications including Art Photo Feature Magazine and Eyeshot Magazine. He regularly performs jury duties at various international photography competitions.
Born in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Pratyay started photography in Alberta, Canada in 2011. He is best known for his moody candid photographs that leave the viewer with stories to imagine and compel to introspect. Pratyay's university education in computer science and a career in IT have taught him to visualize thoughts, organize them and come up with innovative solutions to translate ideas into something tangible. This can be seen in his approach to photography where he takes environmental elements and blends available light with artificial, when necessary, to express his vision using everyday scenes and unguarded, un-staged fleeting moments. Primarily self-taught, he studied photojournalism at SAIT to further advance his skills.
